Dingle is located on the Dingle Peninusla surrounded by hills and bounded by the Atlantic and beautiful Dingle Bay. Because of its location on Europe's westernmost peninsula and like most coastal towns, Dingle gets its share of rain and drizzle. That as our experience but it did not limit our enjoyment of the city.
Dingle, or An Daingean in Gaelic, is one of the official Gaeltacht regions in Ireland, where Gaelic, the native language of Ireland is predominently spoken. To preserve the country's native language, Gaeltacht regions were officially recognized in the 1920s and in 2006, the Irish government adopted a 20-year plan to support the preservation of the language. Nationwide, place names on highway signage is shown in English as well as Gaelic.
